Dear Friend,

As the nonprofit Child Care Council celebrates its 37 years of service to children, families and communities throughout Contra Costa, its dedicated Board and committed and professional staff members count you as a partner in building the quality of care and early education to benefit our young children.

It remains a difficult time for many families. They continue to turn to the Child Care Council for free parenting support, child care referrals and assistance with issues from special needs to child health and safety to resources for other needs, including food and shelter.

One family came to the Child Care Council with a long list of challenges. The mother was looking for help paying for and finding child care. She needed housing for her family. They were homeless. They needed food, clothing and transportation help. The father was in jail but was to be released the next day and their housing voucher had expired. We talked to various resources, and this family was able to get placed in a temporary apartment in Concord. We also helped the parents and children get food and clothes to get started. We placed the family on the eligibility list for the Child Care Fund, our child care subsidy program. Because the family was determined to be at risk, we were able to enroll them quickly in the program and issue a voucher for child care. Our Council staff worked quickly and tirelessly to ensure the well-being of this family. With our help, the mother found a family child care provider who also generously provided food and washed their clothes. This family has begun the road to stability. The mother has found a job. The children are starting to thrive in their new early care environment.
